(Douglas, Wyoming, February 13, 2009) - The Douglas Ranger District is seeking public comment on a Draft Environmental Assessment for travel management on the Thunder Basin National Grassland. The document and instructions for commenting can be found at www.fs.fed.us/r2/mbr/projects/trans/index. The documents presents three alternatives: No Action, Motorized Trails Emphasis, and Non-Motorized Emphasis. The two action alternatives provide a variety of both motorized and non-motorized routes. Actions include converting some roads to non-motorized trails and establishing open areas for Off-Highway Vehicles, and decommissioning some roads that are causing resource damage. The construction of trailheads and parking areas is also proposed.

The Douglas Ranger District proposes to pursue rights-of-way for 404 miles of Forest Service System Roads that have been histoircally, and are currently, closed due to lack of legal public access. To learn more about the travel management plan, please attend one of the following open house meetings, all of which will be from 4-7pm.
